Pant nagar police have booked the hoarding company director Bhavesh Bhinde and three of its unknown staffer for May 13 incident in which 14 people lost their life and many others injured when a huge illegal hoarding fell off due to gusty winds and heavy rains.According to Mumbai Police, a case at the Pant Nagar Police Station has been registered against accused Bhavesh Bhide and others, under sections 304, 337, 338 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC); the Mumbai Police has also started looking for Bhinde who is absconding. Bhavesh Bhinde, 51, the director of Ego Media Pvt Ltd (hoarding board owner) who has been booked responsible for 14 deaths was booked by Mulund police last year in a rape case. Bhinde’s girlfriend had lodged that Bhinde under promise of marriage had sexually exploited her. Police have filed the chargesheet and case is pending trial.

Mumbai hoarding collapse: Cops claims process 'begun to remove hoardings' but collapse occurred in meantime

A day after a hoarding collapse at Ghatkopar killed 14 people , the Government Railway Police (GRP) released a press statement which said that they had started the process of removal of hoardings but the collapse occurred before the process could be completed. The statement said that the process had begun after the BMC sent them a letter last week to get the hoardings removed following complaints.The BPCL petrol pump and the hoardings were managed by the Railway Police Welfare Fund Association since 2021.

Mumbai Police registered a case against the owner of Ego Media and others after a hoarding collapsed on a petrol pump in Ghatkopar area on Monday, killing eight persons, an official said.

The owner, Bhavesh Bhinde, and others were booked under sections 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 337 (causing hurt to another person by acting rashly or negligently) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case has been registered at Pantnagar police station and the investigation is underway, he said.

At least eight persons were killed and over 70 others injured when the 100-foot tall billboard fell on the petrol pump at the Cheddanagar Junction amid gusty wind and rain, officials said.

According to civic officials, the billboard was illegal and no permission was taken to install it.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed grief over the death of several people due to the fall of a massive billboard in a dust storm in Mumbai.

She extended her condolences to the next of kin of the deceased in the accident.

BMC issues notice to ad agency for immediate removal of three other hoardings in Ghatkopar

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a notice to an advertisem*nt agency on Monday after the Ghatkopar billboard collapse incident, asking it to immediately remove the remaining three hoardings near the spot, officials said.

The notice has been issued to M/s Ego Media for installing the hoarding that collapsed on the petrol pump during the gusty winds on Monday evening. According to police, eight persons were killed and more than 70 were injured in the incident.

"The BMC has asked the ad agency to remove the remaining three hoardings immediately for not having valid permission," an official said.

The Assistant Police Commissioner (Admin) had given permission for erecting the four hoardings on behalf of the Commissioner of Railway Police, Mumbai, including the one which collapsed on Monday, but no official permission or NOC was obtained from the BMC.

The official said the land on which the hoarding was erected is the Collector land and it was in possession of Police Housing Welfare Corporation of the Government of Maharashtra as per the property card records.
