FAQ

Why use natural peanut butter for DIY Pill Pockets?

Natural peanut butter is healthier than regular or processed peanut butter because it does not contain any added sugars or oils. Natural peanut butter is also made with pure peanuts, so it contains more protein, vitamins, and minerals. It also has a nuttier flavor and a much better texture.

How to store homemade pill pockets?

Store them in an air-tight container in the fridge. You can also make them ahead and freeze them on a baking sheet. Then, place the pill pockets in an airtight container or freezer bag and keep them frozen for up to 3 months. To use, simply thaw on the countertop.

Should you use creamy peanut butter or crunchy?

Creamy peanut butter works best but crunchy also works. Just make sure it is natural and has no Xylitol.

Can you mash the pill before adding it into the pill pocket?

It is not recommended to crush pills for your pets. During the mashing process, certain medications may experience a loss of effectiveness or alteration of their active ingredients. Furthermore, certain medications are formulated to gradually release the active ingredients into the body.

What kind of oats should I use?

I use minute or instant oats to make these pill pockets. They are fine for dogs to eat just as they are – without cooking them.

Can you use regular flour instead of oats?

Using oats ground into a flour consistency is a healthier choice. Oat flour is higher in fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals such as iron, magnesium, and zinc. Additionally, oat flour has a lower glycemic index than all-purpose flour, which measures how quickly a food raises blood sugar levels.
