Ben Dunlap

Mr. Ben Dunlap, age 36, of Newnan, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Ben was born March 26, 1980, in LaGrange, and lived in Roanoke, AL and LaGrange before making his home in Newnan in 2012. He was Pentecostal by faith, was employed at Glovis America in West Point, and was an avid Bama fan. Survivors include his wife, Leslie Dunlap; son, Noah Dunlap; daughter, Arianna Dunlap, all of Newnan; father and step-mother, Rev. Randall and Janet Dunlap of Whitesburg; mother, Sharon Hill of Franklin; brother, Britt and Josie Dunlap of Newnan; grandmothers, Margaret Dunlap of Roanoke, AL and Ora Prestridge of Stovall; mother in-law and father in-law, Terry and Rick Johnson of West Point; brothers in-law, Jeremy and Tina Smith, Joshua and Shawny Smith, Kristopher Smith; sisters in-law, Linsey and Chris Cason, Lisa Fuller; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, J. B. Dunlap and Aaron Prestridge. The funeral service was conducted at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Randall Dunlap and the Reverend Jody Overton officiated. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 9 Monday night. Sheila McClain Lamb

Sheila McClain Lamb, age 66, of LaGrange, passed away on Sunday, March 26 at the Hospice of LaGrange.She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Gilbert Lamb; four children she loved dearly, Stephen Lamb, Michael Lamb, Rebecca Creel and Rachel Hand; two sons-in-law who she loved as her own sons, Jason Creel and Shane Hand; one daughter-in-law who she loved as her own, Mandy Lamb; 10 grandchildren who she deeply cherished, Matthew Lamb, Jonathan Creel, Nathan Lamb, Justin Lamb, Brayden Lamb, Elizabeth Creel, Jack Creel, Elijah Hand, Ethan Lamb and Allison Lamb. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lois McClain of Avon Park, Florida. Sheila served the LaGrange community as a nurse for over 25 years, including over 14 years at the Hospice of LaGrange.She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an active member of Rosemont Baptist Church, selflessly committed to serving others and Jesus Christ.She was a loving and caring person; devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many- always thinking of others before herself! Jesse Carlton Sandlin III

Mr. Jesse Carlton Sandlin III, age 59, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Hospice LaGrange. He was born January 12, 1958 in Kinston, North Carolina the son of the late Jesse Carlton Sandlin Jr. and Peggy Ann Sandlin. He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Jacobs on December 29, 1997. Jesse worked for Service Master Clean. Jesse is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Sandlin; daughter, Brandi Sandlin of Nebraska; sons, Jesse Carlton Sandlin IV of Nebraska and Norman Sandlin of Colorado; sister, Belinda Peggy Sandlin of Virginia; several aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous friends in LaGrange and his church family at First Baptist Church on the square.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cindy Sandlin. At the family’s request there will not be any services at this time.

Willie Mae Middlebrook-Hopson

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day.” II Timothy 4:7-8a. Willie Mae Middlebrook-Hopson was born to Christine and Bobbie Lee Middlebrook, in Alabama on May 26, 1926. She moved to Hogansville, Georgia shortly after her birth. Willie Mae met and married Isaiah Hopson in 1945.She was employed as a cafeteria worker at the Hogansville High School for eighteen years where she was known for her homemade biscuits and cinnamon rolls. She also worked as a live-in assistance in Atlanta for 37 years. Willie Mae joined Springfield Baptist Church at a early age. As an active member, she taught a Sunday School class and the Junior Development class for nearly 37 years. She coordinated the penny drive and purchased fruit to distribute to the children in the church every Christmas for 20 years. With honor and pride she prepared the “Holy Communion” and assisted with the monthly clean-up of the church. She was a member of the Reunion Club (an organization of praying women who met monthly at member’s houses). This club was in existence for sixty-five years and Willie Mae was a member for 20 years. A spiritual woman who believed in being on time and lending a hand to whomever and wherever she could. Her favorite color was pink. On February 14, 2010, she moved to Teaneck, New Jersey where she resided until her death. While in Teaneck, she was under the watch care of Pastor Elaine Merritt at Highway Holiness Church Ministries, Inc. in Hackensack, New Jersey. Survived by her children, Vera Jane (Donald), Carl A. (Joan); grandchildren, Deborah Elaine, Jennifer Lynn, Donald Brian (Diana), Kalonji Reemond (Kira), Jelandré Jocshida and Cedric Arwin; great grandchildren, Daye Oliva, Adrian, Demy Aleese, and Aidan along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Springfield Baptist Church, Hogansville.

Teresa Tucker Cofield

Mrs. Teresa Tucker Cofield was born August 9, 1956, the fourth child born to the late, Henderson and Corine Tucker in LaGrange (Troup County) Georgia. She joined First Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member until her health declined, serving on various Ministries including, Hospitality Team, Children’s Church, Missionary, and Daughters of Imani. Teresa was a 1974 graduate of LaGrange High School. Her passion in life was baking, cooking, and love for children. Her answer to anything was, “YES, as long as I’m free, I’ll make it happen.” On Tuesday, March 21, 2017, Teresa Tucker Cofield passed away at her home in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara Thompson, Lorene Tucker, and Angelia Flowers. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Kerry Cofield; children, Daron Cofield, August, GA; Shyrell Cofield, Jonesboro, GA; Thaddius Cofield, LaGrange, GA; four loving and precious grandchildren, Jasmyne, Dariana, Angelica, and Daron, Jr, all of Plant City, FL; one brother and two sisters, Anthony Tucker, LaGrange, GA; Freda Tucker, Cleveland, OH; and Vanessa Tucker, LaGrange, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom loved her with their whole hearts. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Fannin Street. Dr. Clarence Sams officiated. Burial followed at Southview Cemetery.

Martha Elizabeth Dodgen

Martha Elizabeth Dodgen, age 95, of Five Points, AL passed awayMonday, March 27, 2017. Mrs. Dodgen was born July 15, 1921 in Temple, GA to the late John Andrew Potate and Lula Eugenia Smith Potate. She was retired from the United States Postal Service as a Post Master and Rural Carrier. Mrs. Dodgen was a very active member of Standing Rock United Methodist Church and the Women’s Club until her health declined. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrous Mac Dodgen; and grandson, Robert “Bobby” Dodgen. Survivors include her son, Johnny Mac (Bonnie) Dodgen; daughter, Sharon Dodgen McLaughlin; grandchildren, John Andrew (Kelly) Dodgen, Angela Susan Woodie, Thomas Rex McLaughlin, April McLaughlin Box, Major Bryant McLaughlin; eight great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be heldat 2:00 P.M. ESTon Thursday, March 30, 2017at Standing Rock United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul Messer and Reverend Milton Newton officiating.The gathering of family and friends will be onWednesday, March 29, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested any contributions to be made to Standing Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3440 Co Rd 278, Five Points, AL 36855 in memory of Mrs. Martha E.
