Morning Description
This course will provide actionable recommendations to improve professional learning communities (PLCs) at schools. Teachers and administrators will explore the main concepts of PLCs to ensure structures can be implemented immediately after this professional learning. Experts from the Multi-Tiered System of Supports Department of the District will work alongside practicing educators and administrators in an in-person learning environment to build capacity and educator-led contributions to PLCs. The content of this session mirrors the previously delivered PLC sessions 1–4. Those who have previously attended prior PLC sessions may still benefit from attending.
Afternoon Description
This course will provide participants with understanding and identifying the root causes of chronic absenteeism and the impact on student academic achievement. Additionally, the course will discuss data analysis and monitoring and the importance of establishing systems to promote a positive school culture and decrease absenteeism. The course will provide an overview of the importance of early interventions and action planning strategies. The participants will dive deep into the barriers that affect absenteeism and focus on community action and engagement.

Brandi March
Director, Multi-Tiered System of Supports
Clark County School District
As a Mutli-Tiered System of Supports Director, Brandi March integrates years of educational leadership experience. She holds a Master’s in Education from UNLV in Technology Leadership and is pursuing her doctorate from UNLV in Educational Policy and Leadership. Beginning her career teaching throughout the United States, she has proudly served CCSD for 17 years. She started her journey in education as a dedicated teacher with a passion for student growth. As a digital coach, Brandi facilitated the seamless integration of technology to enhance teaching and learning experiences. Formerly an elementary school principal, she transformed schools by implementing innovative strategies and fostering positive cultures. Now, as Director of MTSS, Brandi leverages this diverse background to collaboratively design and implement comprehensive support systems and facilitate professional learning that empowers educators to achieve academic and social-emotional success with students.
Deanna Peterson
Coordinator IV, Multi-Tiered System of Supports
Clark County School District
Deanna Peterson began her career in 1994 as a Grade 4 teacher at Mountain View Elementary School in Clark County School District (CCSD). With 30 years of dedication to education, Deanna has served as a teacher in Nevada, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania for Grades Pre-Kindergarten, 2, 3, and 4; Kindergarten-Grade 5 Intervention Specialist; Read by Grade 3 Literacy Specialist; K-12 Literacy and Language Development Coordinator, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Coordinator for CCSD. In her current position as MTSS Coordinator, she provides leadership and coordination to increase access to integrated student supports for academic, social-emotional, and behavioral learning by collaboratively designing and implementing comprehensive support systems and delivering high-quality professional learning. Deanna holds a bachelor’s degree in education and psychology from Rutgers College, Rutgers University, and a master’s degree in educational administration from Sierra Nevada College. Her personal and professional passion for MTSS and literacy is deeply rooted in a desire to provide all students with the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral support needed to learn and succeed.
Darien Orr
Coordinator IV, Multi-Tiered System of Supports
Clark County School District
Darien Orr holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, as well as a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Illinois - Springfield. Throughout his educational career, Darien has served as an Elementary Music Specialist, Middle School Band Director, Middle School Administrator, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Coordinator. In his current role as MTSS Coordinator, Darien provides guidance and support to help foster the development of high-functioning professional learning communities within the Clark County School District. In alignment with his personal and professional mission, these communities continuously collaborate to develop a comprehensive system of support that increases student, staff, and family access to high-quality academic, social-emotional, and behavioral learning opportunities.
Danielle Jones, originally from Las Vegas, is a product of the Clark County School District. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UNLV. With a commitment to education, Jones furthered her studies, obtaining a Master's in Educational Leadership from GCU. For over a decade, she dedicated herself to teaching social studies within CCSD.
Transitioning into leadership roles, Mrs. Jones assumed the position of principal at a dual credit charter high school before returning to CCSD as an assistant principal at Arbor View High School. In her capacity at Arbor View, she implemented disciplinary strategies focusing on restorative practices, fostering a culture of positivity and reinforcing desirable student behavior.
Recently, Mrs. Jones began her role as Director II, overseeing chronic absenteeism for CCSD within the Education Services Division. In this capacity, her department addresses chronic absenteeism by collaborating with schools to establish effective attendance protocols and engaging community partners to extend support to families in need.
Kevin McPartlincurrently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for the Education Services Division in the Clark County School District.The Education Services Division consists of comprehensive schools and alternative educational programs and provides instruction and related services for 50,000 students.This division also incorporates the Department of Pupil Personnel Services, which includes student behavioral referrals, restorative practices and community partnerships related to wraparound services and support for students and families.
Prior to this role, McPartlin served as a high school principal for nearly 18 years.In 2006, he became the principal of Chaparral High School, in east Las Vegas.Needing to reverse a decade of negative trends in achievement and climate, McPartlin restructured the school into four autonomous and thematic learning academies to engage students in their learning.In 2011, McPartlin moved to Arbor View High School, in NW Las Vegas, and turned his focus to promoting an inclusive, equity-based environment for all students by implementing an advisory program, restorative practices, and removed obstacles to accessing higher level coursework.
McPartlin has been named Nevada Administrator of the Year on three occasions by three different organizations and has presented at educational symposiums in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, San Diego, Vancouver (WA), and Washington D.C.
