Kaleb snacked on whatever he could find in the kitchen of the Guild. The cooks Caine hired needed to stock up on food. Kal settled on eating an apple, stashing another in his pocket for later.

Leaving the kitchen, Kaleb planned to wander the streets of Arondale looking for trouble to amuse himself and past the time until his next mission.

Jezamine received her mission and was already off at the Grand Ball, silently wishing her all the best for retrieving the jewels. He hoped she made it back safely, feeling mixed emotions thinking of Jez not ever coming back.

Who else was he going to rival against? Who else was he going to push beyond their limits to be their best? Who else was he supposed to call sister?

No, he needed Jezamine to return after the job was done. Life wouldn't be the same without her and the Guild depended on her taking over the throne. Kaleb depended on her as well.

Kai, a Messenger of Caine's stopped Kaleb before he could open the door to leave the mill factory.

"Caine would like to see you."

"Can't it wait? I have things to do and loot to steal." Kaleb tried to open the door again but Kai slammed it shut.

"Caine would like to see you. Now."

"Fine, fine! Lead the way!" Kaleb sighed following the man to the Meeting Room.

"Ah Kaleb! Take a seat!" Caine gestured to the seat across from him, Kai closed the door so they could speak in private. "There's something I want you to do for me and I think you are the perfect man for the job!"

Kaleb didn't know what the Leader of Thieves had planned for him but he was interested to hear what the man had to say.

Caine knew Jezamine wouldn't fail him or the mission, but just to make sure of her success, he wanted to send Kaleb to the Grand Ball as well to keep a watchful eye on his daughter. Explaining his plan to Kaleb.

Kaleb was the best climber Caine knew, rembering the first time he had seen the orphan boy climbing rooftops and walls. He was an excellent climber and would be the first thief to climb the walls and infiltrate the castle.

Caine needed to make sure his daughter succeed because he was afraid of himself and what he would do if he lost her like he lost her mother.

His obsession for the jewels grew over the years, and he was at the end of his patience. He needed the jewels to complete his vision and dream, that was what mattered to Caine the most, becoming King of Thieves.

Giving Kaleb clear instructions to not only keep an eye out on Jezamine but the Royal Jewels as well. Caine may as well make the mission competitive for the two Prodigies. Jezamine seemed to be a better thief with Kaleb being her rival. Rivalry was key after all.

"Are you in or are you out?" Caine asked impatiently, eager for Kaleb to join Jezamine in the mission.

"I will do the job and won't fail you Caine." Kaleb said, agreeing to the task.

The reason why Caine adopted the orphan boy into the Guild was because he wanted to push Jezamine to be her absolute best. He also took Kaleb under his wing as a Prodigy because he always wanted a son, and Kaleb was everything he pictured if he had a son instead of a daughter.

He wondered if Jezamine made it inside the castle without any drama, or if she was already sitting in a cell in the dungeons awaiting her sentence like the dates of many before her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Attending the Grand Ball was more exciting than wandering the streets like he originally planned to do. Kaleb had never been to a party let alone a Royal gathering. He wondered what food and drinks they would be serving at the castle this evening. Would the Royal Ladies be easy to charm and pickpocket? Would the King's men be on a tight security watch?
What Kal should have been thinking about was planning his route into the castle and what suit he was going to wear to fit into his surroundings. Luckily he had many suits that looked regal enough he wouldn't be questioned by his appearance.
As for getting inside the castle, Kaleb was going to have to scout the walls to find a spot that was less guarded and had easy access to the main hall where the Ball was being held.
Getting changed, Kaleb freshened up and put gel in his hair to slick it back like most of the rich men in Arondale styled their hair. Slick hair must mean a sign of wealth, and Kaleb wanted to look the part.
Instead of waiting for Caine's word to go, Kal left for the castle on his own accord. He wanted to make sure Jezamine was still alive. Kal hid in the forest outside of the castle, scanning the large stone wall for any entry points. He found a single balcony above him, unguarded and it was easy enough to scale the wall and reach.
Starting his climb, Kaleb tried his best not to dirty or tear his suit as he ascended up the stone wall. It brought back memories of his time at the orphanage and the numerous times he climbed out of the window to escape into the night.
Near the top he suddenly heard voices approaching, quickly concealing himself in the shadows as two people walked onto the balcony. Kaleb recognised one of the voices immediately - Jezamine, who was alive and well. The other was the Prince. Kal listened to their conversation while remaining out of sight.
